Step by step

Workflows

The moment you open TuneBit, the app automatically scans your Wi-Fi network for SoundTouch speakers. There's nothing to configure.

  1. Tap a speaker in the list to open the action panel.
  2. Choose start a station to play a saved radio station.
  3. The speaker connects immediately. You can close the action panel again by tapping the speaker once more.
  4. Control the volume with the slider, whether the panel is open or closed.
Standby: Is the speaker currently playing via Spotify Connect or Bluetooth? You can simply stop it in TuneBit with the ■ stop button. The app then sends a power command to close the source.

TuneBit uses the Radio Browser API. With it you search a live, independent database of radio stations worldwide.

  1. Tap the menu icon top-right of the main screen ☰ .
  2. Choose Stations under the Manage heading.
  3. Type your station's name (e.g. "Radio 1" or "Qmusic") and press Search.
  4. Each result shows the country, language, a few genre tags and the codec or bitrate — so you can easily tell variants of the same station apart.
  5. Tap the + next to a station to add it to your list.
  6. Stations stay saved locally on your phone. Take your phone to another house with SoundTouch speakers and your station list comes along.

A scene bundles your music and speakers. Handy for moments that recur often, like "Morning routine" or "Friday evening".

  1. Go via the menu to Scenes and tap + New scene.
  2. Give the scene a name and pick a station from your saved list.
  3. Toggle on the speakers that should take part.
  4. Set the desired start volume per selected speaker directly via the slider.
  5. Save. From now on you can start this scene via the Star button on the main screen. The 'master' speaker starts the station, and the rest listen along in sync.
  6. Speakers not in the scene keep doing what they were doing. Want to switch everything off? Then first tap Stop all.
Hardware sync: TuneBit doesn't solve this in software, but instructs the speakers via the Bose setZone command — so they synchronise the audio between themselves without network delay.

For those who like looking under the hood: a diagnostics screen with the technical details of each speaker.

  1. In the settings, switch on the X-Ray mode option.
  2. A small ⓘ button now appears top-right on each speaker card.
  3. Tap it to fetch network, hardware and playback information for that speaker.
  4. You see IP and MAC address, whether the WebSocket (Gabbo) is connected, the model and firmware, the active source, the stream URL, any track/artist and the group role.

Why?

Because you should get to keep enjoying your speakers.

Bose switched off the SoundTouch cloud. What's left works, but listening to radio has become a detour. TuneBit brings back the simple gesture.
