Build a filter

Pick an object to load its properties as filter rows, or add rows manually. Each row has a Current value (what to find) and a New value (what to apply).

Find objects

Click Find. StyleFitter searches the drawing (and optionally block definitions) for every object that matches each filter row.

Key: AND logic across all rows, optionally within a boundary.

The StyleFitter window β€” filter rows, result counter, guidance and Apply in one view.

The filter rows are the heart of StyleFitter. Each row has four columns: Property (what to look at), Operator (how to compare), Current value (what to find β€” leave empty to match everything) and New value (what to apply β€” leave empty to leave that property untouched).

The guidance panel at the bottom updates after every action. It always tells you exactly what happened and what the next step is β€” no guesswork.

Click the ? button in the top right to activate help mode. Hover over a button or control to see a description of what it does.

Step by step

Workflows

Click the scenario that matches your situation.

StyleFitter's basic workflow: pick one object, find similar objects, and apply your target properties to every found object in one click.

  1. Click πŸ“Œ Pick object β€” the window hides and you click an object in the drawing.
  2. StyleFitter reads all properties of that object and fills the filter rows automatically. A search runs immediately β€” no extra click needed.
  3. Review the filter rows. Remove rows you don't need via the βœ– at the end of the row. The Current value column determines what's searched for; leave it empty to match all objects.
  4. Enter a New value for each property you want to change. Leave empty to leave that property untouched.
  5. The guidance panel at the bottom shows the next step after every action.
  6. Click Apply changes. Every matching object is updated.
Auto-find: After picking an object, StyleFitter runs the search immediately. The Apply button becomes active as soon as you enter a New value β€” you don't have to click Find again unless you change the filter.

You don't have to pick an object first. You can also build a filter entirely yourself via οΌ‹ Add row.

  1. Click οΌ‹ Add row. A new row appears with a property selector, an operator, and two value fields.
  2. Choose the property (Layer, Color, Text style, etc.) and the operator (equals, not equal, contains, etc.).
  3. Enter a current value to filter on. Leave empty to match all objects.
  4. Enter a new value to apply. Leave empty to leave that property untouched.
  5. Add as many rows as needed β€” all rows are combined with AND logic.
  6. Click πŸ” Find objects, then Apply changes.
Operators: Use not equal to find objects that deviate from a standard. Use contains or wildcard for partial text matches.

StyleFitter can load layers and styles from an external DWG β€” your office standard or a client template. On apply, missing styles are imported automatically.

  1. In the New values from section at the bottom of the window, select the Reference drawing.
  2. Click Browse… and choose the reference DWG file. StyleFitter reads all layers, text styles, dimension styles and MLeader styles from that file.
  3. The New value dropdowns now show the values from the reference drawing.
  4. On apply, missing styles are imported automatically from the reference drawing.
Remembered: The reference drawing path is stored per computer. The next time you open StyleFitter, the same reference drawing is loaded automatically.

The ↓ ByLayer button is a shortcut that resets all common property overrides across the entire drawing to ByLayer in one click.

  1. Click ↓ ByLayer. StyleFitter automatically loads 6 filter rows: Object type = All, Color β†’ ByLayer, Linetype β†’ ByLayer, Lineweight β†’ ByLayer, Transparency β†’ ByLayer, Linetype scale β†’ 1.
  2. A search runs immediately. The counter shows all objects in the drawing.
  3. Optionally remove rows for properties you want to keep.
  4. Click Apply changes. Only objects with an actual override are changed.
Second run: After applying, a new run will report "All objects are already up to date" β€” a confirmation that everything is normalized.

Enable Scan blocks to include objects inside block definitions in the find and apply operations.

  1. Check Scan blocks in the options.
  2. Click πŸ” Find objects. The counter now also shows objects inside block definitions, listed separately: "152 in block definitions".
  3. Click Apply changes. Objects in block definitions are modified directly β€” all instances of the block are updated immediately.
Regen: When objects in block definitions are modified, StyleFitter automatically triggers a drawing regen. Use this deliberately β€” changes apply to every instance of the block.

Use a boundary to limit the search to a specific area of the drawing.

  1. Click β–’ Set boundary in the toolbar.
  2. Draw a rectangle in the drawing around the desired area.
  3. The boundary label shows the dimensions: "Boundary: 24.50Γ—18.30".
  4. Click πŸ” Find objects β€” only objects within the boundary are included.
  5. To remove the boundary, click the βœ– next to the boundary label.
Blocks: Objects in block definitions are never filtered by boundary β€” they're always included when "Scan blocks" is active.

StyleFitter warns at startup if there are layers that are off, frozen or locked. Objects on those layers can't be found or processed.

  1. If the warning banner appears, click Fix layers. StyleFitter unlocks, thaws and turns on all layers β€” and stores the original states.
  2. Work normally β€” find objects and apply your changes.
  3. When you close StyleFitter, all layers are automatically restored to their original state.
Automatic restore: You don't have to do anything β€” closing StyleFitter always restores the layer states, even if you close the window without applying anything.

StyleFitter has two built-in help systems that guide you at every step.

  1. Guidance panel: The colored bar at the bottom of the window always shows what just happened and what the next step is. It updates after every action.
  2. Help mode (?): Click the ? button in the top right to activate help mode. Hover over a button or control to see a description. Click ? again to exit.
Guidance colors: Blue/purple = action required. Green = ready to apply or done. Orange = warning. Red = error.

Annotative text is automatically assigned all annotation scales when a text style is applied. MText inline font codes are stripped when a new text style is applied. Dimension and MLeader styles import their dependent text styles from the reference drawing when needed.
