Welcome to our island: where AutoCAD is actually fun
CompanionBits is run by my daughter Maya and me. Together, we build AutoCAD add-ons for architects, drafting technicians, and engineering firms — and whenever a project is truly close to our hearts, we gladly step outside our comfort zone.
Anyone who drafts every day knows the rusty mainland of AutoCAD: repetitive tasks, unlocked viewports, manual error hunting, and tinkering with loose scripts. Annual updates rarely solve these daily annoyances, and sometimes Autodesk even states plainly on its own support forum: “this isn’t possible.”
I refused to settle for that.
I’ve been an architect for over 30 years and have drafted with AutoCAD for 35 — and the itch never went away. I dreamed of an island where all those frustrations were resolved. An island where drafting is simply enjoyable again.
Together with my daughter Maya, a software engineer, I built the bridge to that island: CompanionBits. The ideas stem directly from my daily work at the computer, and together we bring them to life. The result is a suite of tools that tackle what AutoCAD leaves behind, reducing time-consuming tasks to a single click. No cluttered menus, ready to use out of the box. And your drawings remain clean, standard DWG files that anyone can open.
